Singapore MBA schools benefit from financial crisis

Recently, the news highlighted that Master of Business Administration ("MBA") schools in Singapore are benefited from the recent financial turmoil. At the brink of the crisis, more and more people enrolled into business school, and peruse master program as an personal improvement and resume enhancement.

In Singapore there are a few business schools offer MBA programme, namely: Nanyang Business School, National University of Singapore, Insead Singapore, Singapore Management University, University of Chicago Graduate Schoold of Business, etc.

The increase could probably explained by the competitive labours markets, where decreasing number of work forces are required in Singapore. Hence, we will see the application number to surge. On the other hand, it will be getting tougher to secure a seat in MBA school, given the fact that the applications has increased. For instance: The University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, which opened a Singapore campus in 2000, has seen a surge in demand, too. Now only one in three applicants lands a place on its programme.(Quoted from efinancialcareers.sg)

Are you interested in applying too ?

What is brewing in Starbucks

As a coffee lover, I was surfing Starbucks Singapore Website. And found the link 'What's Brewing' kinda interesting. Maybe they have new products coming in. You got to be innovative and giving cutting-edge products to your customers, to retain or to attract new customers. I found these:

Dark Cherry Mocha

And this: Toffee Nut Latte

Dark Cherry Mocha sounds very tasty! Have you ever try a Mocha with dark cherry flavours? I am sure it's going to be very nice. I used to be a Coffee Barista, and this makes me own a little knowledge on basic coffee theory ( temperatures, beans of coffees). It's going to be one of the jobs I enjoyed the most in my life.

I started to be a person who can't breath without caffeine, and Mocha is definitely my favourite. I must praise the person who come out with the idea of putting coffee and chocolate together.

Okay. I should get myself a Dark Cherry Mocha tomorrow.

Siloso Beach Party on New Year Eve

If you are a party animal, and if you would like to spend your time dancing from 2008 to 2009, then, you should definitely go for Siloso Beach Party @ Sentosa!!

'Put your hands up! Hand ups, everybody!'

The price is quite reasonable and is on promotion at S$29, till 20th Dec. The standard price ( i.e. non-promotion price) would be S$35. Personally, I like Siloso beach and party. Given that you can count down and dance with so many guys and girls, why not join the party and count down together?

Opening of Kuala Lumpur- Singapore air sector

Yesterday (1st Dec 2008) the Kuala Lumpur- Singapore air route was fully opened, with new services to East Malaysia also.

The route was originally dominated by 2 Singapore Airline (SIA) and Malaysia Airline (MAS) until the partial liberalisation in Feb'2008. Budget airline, including Air Asia, Jetstar Asia, Tiger Aviation, etc started to have a share of the lucrative route. Personally, I would think the airfare to go down further. This is supported by free market theory, where a new equilibrium price is going to be achieved subsequent to the changes on the market structure.

Restrictions on the supply of budget airline has been lifted, the changes in supply factor has shifted the supply curve and where would be the equilibrium price?

The liberalisation would definitely increase the mobility and business-flow in-between both countries, given that the low-cost carriers makes flying more affordable. As what Air Asia slogan is: ' Everyone can fly'.

NOL to slash 1,000 jobs

Recession has started to kick-in , not only the corporate world is affected, but also certain residents in the country. Subsequent after the retrenchemnt in DBS, another coporate giant in Singapore, NOL has announced the retrenchment exercise in Nov 2008.

Neptune Orient Lines is cutting 1,000 jobs, or approximately 9% of its workforce. However, majority of the retrenched / to-be retrenched employees are based in North America.

Shipping industry is affected by the slowing-down global economy. Idle capacity/ excess staffs are the main target area of the board to cut the costs to survive through the recession.

Transporter 3

Hey... Hey.. Hey..

Transporter 3 is scheduled to be out soon.... It's schedule to be on the theatre on the 26th of Nov 2008 in US. However, we (Everything SG site) have no idea about the date of this movie to be available for Singapore's followers yet.

Nevertheless, you could view the trailer here:

http://transporter3film.com

The 3rd ed of Transporter is still played by one of the finest guy in the world, Jason Statham. And the tagline of the movie is : ' This time, rules are the same. Except one'. What fresh idea could the producer bring to us? We are looking forward to this movie eagerly.

I'm pretty sure the movie is going to be entertaining

Free Circulating News in Singapore

In Singapore, there are 2 newspapers that are circulated for free:

1. Mypaper (Website available at http://mypaper.sg)
2. Today (Website available at http://todayonline.com)

The free circulating news could be collected from almost all the MRT stations early in the morning, and some MRT stations (e.g. Raffles MRT) during lunch time. Can you imagine the marketing power the 2 newspaper have ? A lot of Singaporean travels to work by taking MRT, and I am quite sure that most of the people wouldn't mind to collect a piece of the news, and read it in the MRT, if the trains are not too crowded.

Looking on the advertisement, you might not have to decide to buy the items immediately, but it has ( at its minimal) create some sort of awareness in your mind. You're aware of the existence of such brand, such products. It turns to be interesting, and the free circulating news have become a powerful marketing channels in Singapore. In Malaysia, a similar free circulating newspaper, 'The Sun' is available.

I wonder how much will the price be to advertise on the cover page of the news?

Merlion- Iconic Symbol of Singapore

If you come to Singapore, how can you miss out the iconic symbol of Singapore? Look at the picture above, sound pretty cool huh? This is Merlion Singapore.

' The Merlion was first designed as an emblem for the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) in 1964 – the lion head with a fish body resting on a crest of waves quickly became Singapore’s icon to the rest of the world.
' (Quoted from: www.visitsingapore.com).

Merlion Singapore is not very far away from Esplanade Singapore, and this is a place you must visit if you come to Singapore. Given the fact that it is an icon of Singapore, why not visit the place when you are around in the city. I am sure the photo you take will be fabulous.

Singapore Flyers

I tried riding Singapore Flyers before with some of my friends; that's quite a fun ride as you get to enjoy a panoramic view of Singapore, especially if you are taking the rides at night. The fare is quite reasonable, at about S$29++, I do remembered correctly. I am sure a lot of celebreties had visited the place.

The cool things, you got to enjoy some good foods after finishing the rides. As, there are some nice restaurant around. I would strongly recommend you all take the rides at night .
